One thing I really like about the G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse and the G502 Hero Mouse is that they both look professional and have that sophisticated gaming look.

G502 Proteus Spectrum Gaming Mouse, Product
In this Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum review we will look at the slight differences between the G502 Proteus Spectrum and the G502 Hero which I will explain below. Mere looking at both mice you may not be able to tell the difference.
Let me share a table below to show you the slight differences between these two mice:
TERMS FROM THE TABLE ABOVE
- IPS means Inches per second. It refers to the maximum speed at which a mouse can be moved before the sensor loses ability to track movement. IPS is typical of mice that has laser or optical sensors.
- DPI means Dots per inch and this tells you how sensitive your mouse is across your screen. A mouse with higher DPI is usually better because you are able to point at objects accurately.
The ergonomic design of the G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse coupled with the durability has made this mouse so popular and people always consider buying either this model or the updated version, the G502 Hero Gaming mouse, instead of buying expensive ones.
These Logitech mice do a great job and deliver fantastic gaming results. Now also note that these mice can be used for daily purposes too not just for gaming.
In fact the G502 Spectrum Mouse was referred to as “the gamers choice” by Logitech.
I have to say that the design is very similar to the Hero Mouse. The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum is very popular and this is because it was manufactured before the Hero mouse.
What Comes in Your G502 Proteus Spectrum Box?
Here are the items you should see once you open the box:

If you are wondering how to attach the extra weights. You might want to check out my other Logitech gaming mouse review here. Simply pop off the bottom and you would be able to add more weights.

Features – Logice G502 Proteus Spectrum
1. Advanced Optical Sensor:
The G502 gaming mouse comes with PMW3366 sensor with DPI range between 200 and 12,000 meaning you experience extraordinary tracking and constant responsiveness regardless of the sensitivity you set your mouse to. The good news here is that because this is an advanced feature a gaming software is provided by Logitech and you can download it here.
The PMW3366 is great for tracking pixel movements and was introduced a few years back with the Proteus Core. I can say based on research it is one of the best sensors out there.
2. Dual Mode Scroll Wheel:
This mouse just blows my mind with this feature. You can choose to lock the wheel with the push of a button for single click or unlock it and let it keep scrolling continuously; especially if you are going through several pages. This also shows that this mouse is not just for gaming but that it can also be used for other purposes. The metal wheel delivers overall control and smooth experience for you the user.
3. DPI (Dots per Inch):
DPI measures the sensitivity of your mouse. You can quickly shift from low sensitivity to a high one. The thumb button will come in handy in transitioning between low sensitivity to super fast DPI movements. With just one click you can go up and down through 5 DPI settings! There are also 3 DPI light indicators that let you know what setting you are on. The Logitech gaming software will come in handy as this will let you program the DPI settings. Alternatively, you can just use the default settings; they work great too!
The Logitech software loads the mouse automatically and you can click to customize the DPI settings or buttons including 3 profiles.
4. Game Ready features
It is obvious that a lot of thought was put into the design of this mouse given its customization features and performance. The magnetic door, rubberized grips and braided cable all show that this mouse can outshine other gaming mice when it comes to performance.
5. Weight Tuning
this mouse weighs 120g so can be considered quite heavy. Now some people will definitely like the fact that this mouse has some weight and may even feel its not heavy enough and that is why Logitech has provided 5 extra weights that can be added.
The color of the DPI lighting and the Logitech logo can be changed since there are 16.8 million colors to choose from and there are also 3 lighting effects t you can choose from such as the color cycle and fixed color.
The user experience is friendly and straightforward. You are able to sync other Logitech products with the lighting. The software enables you to change lighting, change colors, program buttons and even change profiles
Here’s the cool part – once you have set up your mouse, you can decide to uninstall the software because your mouse has a memory that will keep your settings!
PROS – G502 Proteus Spectrum
1. Durability and Efficiency
It performs better than some cordless and pricey mice in the market. It is great for video edits and website development, 3D design printing. Given its high performance, you would soon realize that one or two Logitech Mice is not enough. You may need to get one for the office and another 1 or 2 for your home! This mouse will definitely help you improve your computer skills.
2. Weights can be adjusted
so if you use the weights on different types of surfaces, the weights would come in handy and you can adjust the mouse however you want by removing them from the plastic case and placing them in the bottom area of your mouse.
3. Precise Buttons and Quick Shifts:
The buttons are great and the locations are ergonomically perfect. You don’t have to push too hard or too soft. This mouse has a nice modern or futuristic look and the response time is quick. If you enjoy playing fortnite, you would see that you may be able to enhance your reacts and precision as fast as possible.
If you are also looking for a great mouse for FPS (first person shooter games) then look no further – this is what you need because you can allocate several options to your mouse. You can also make special modes for your games while your mouse naturally takes on the modes once the game commences.
Now if the game has modes that are not similar in case of battle you can assign different settings in a game thanks to the software which lets you do this. You can also switch between modes just by the touch of one button. Now note that the Hero mouse can let you do all of this too.
4. Battery free:
No need to worry about changing batteries all the time since this mouse comes with its cord.
5. Accessible buttons:
If you look at the picture of this mouse, you would notice that the buttons are all located in the upper area, meaning they can be accessed easily for a smooth experience and also when rapid changes need to be made.
The artful appearance of this mouse is awesome. I have to say that the look is really astonishing. The mouse reminds me of the star wars ship as it looks like something that fell from outer space. The logo that glows, the thumb rest that looks like a “wing”, the positioning of the buttons are just a few characteristics. So if you are the kind of person that likes the way a product looks, then you may consider this.
CONS – G502 Proteus Spectrum
The weight is not light and I can also say that it is not heavy at the same time. Whether light or heavy it still comes down to what you would be comfortable with. It is worth trying though; given all the impressive features that come with it.
What’s important is to ensure that you are able to grip your mouse perfectly and also make sure it is practical and useful and I have to say that the G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse does all of these.
This G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse is not just great for gaming; it is amazing for efficiency; be it for office use or for gaming you would definitely feel great using this mouse and it is currenlty on sale at 50% off!
If you already have the G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse, then there is no point upgrading to the G502 Hero Mouse except you really need to get another mouse.
As you can see, from this G502 Proteus Spectrum review, there’s only slight differences between this mouse and the updated hero version which you can have a look at in my previous post.
Will you consider the G502 Proteus Spectrum Mouse or would you go for the G502 Hero Mouse instead? They are both great! Please leave your comments below. I would love to hear from you.
